![]() An Ode To My CatsA Poem by James Takeo Panton
What majestic felines rumble
At athletic-socked feet
And slink with the cautiousness of a ghost Now purring and furry, they anticipate Every move I am about to make
And all-knowing eyes glint at me With acknowledgement of my being And my presence in their realm Shapely brown and grey tigers, stalking Standing guard at each window
With mild amusement, they watch All manners of things unseen and unwitnessed With great eyes, like fires
That burn into me
The descendants if some noble lineage That prowled jungle palaces and pyramids Heritage of untamed discipline Yet not without their pride
They creep and softly saunter
Across carpeted domain they patrol Against all unwilling subjects That does not recognize their supremacy In their tamed domain they remain At my feet
In my bed
On my lap
They are queens that reign in gentle ferocity And slink silently at my steps © 2008 James Takeo PantonFeatured Review
