Empty RewardA Poem by James Takeo PantonSuffering arises from attachment to desires...the Second Noble Truth...
What does brightly shine
May not all be gold
And all things that are said
Are not always told
Of the treasures I seek
And yet may not find
And leaves me disquieted
Without peace of mind
These things that I want
And things that I need
They burn deep inside me
From them I’m not freed
To me they are chained
And anchored in stone
The desires that hunt me
Will not leave well alone
I search and search
And explore each new ground
To search for that something
That yet I’ve not found
And drive me yet onward
Till my days are gone
Yet still I still seek them
And I must carry on
This yearning that drives me
And gives me much dread
These desires deep within me
And run round my head
And yet I so seek
But never shall find
For the pleasures I seek
Are within my mind
