Subdivided

Subdivided

A Poem by James Takeo Panton

Into these little squares
That people may call home
A million pre-fab mansions
Across the cul-de-sacs they roam
Every house fairly different
Yet all seem the same
Their numbers are different
So are their names
Row upon row
Of vinyl-sided nightmare
Basement rec rooms
Non-conformists beware
Keep eyes on your neighbours
Make sure they fit in
Shovel your driveways
Keep your lawn trimmed
Get in with the crowd
Be just like the rest
To keep up with The Joneses
That is the test
Fit in like the others
All is provided
There is no community
When we’re subdivided

Oh, this is so true. Frightening that everyone wants to be a clone. Me, I never fell into that clique. I like being different. I don't want my house to look exactly like my neighbor's or anyone else's on the street. My house should speak of me. And no, it's not purple. =p

Nice write!
