![]() Into Cold NightA Poem by James Takeo Panton
I went walking into cold night
In the forests dressed in white
Darkened tress their limbs laid bare
In the dusky winter air
Violet chorus it now sings
On the sound of distant wings
Above tree-tops and smoky stacks
From great red mansions and tiny shacks
Snow crunches sharply, all round my feet
Trudging down along frozen white street
Air crisp and clean, flows like a fountain
Dark snowy clouds loom over like mountain
Skies grow dim, purple and red
Sun slowly falls in snowy bed
All turns to blue, and silvery white
Breath now grows frozen on wintry night
On dispatch of errand I venture on
Just as last remnants of daylight now gone
Dark is the forest, cold is the night
No warmth or sunshine until morning’s light
