![]() One Million MilesA Poem by James Takeo Panton
One million miles
Is how far away
The night shines so brightly
Yet they go away
I may as well be
Standing on Mars
With my feet on the ground
As I reach for the stars
I might as well be
A castaway on an isle
The oceans that keeps us
Away with its miles
I look at the moon
Wonder if you see the same
Do you think about me?
Do you whisper my name?
I am far away
Over hills, fields, and land
Across this great continent
Further than I had planned
I’ve come to this place
Where nothing I’ve known
Where truth has not been founded
To me it is not shown
Where I am a stranger
In a strange land, I await
And when I return
This I anticipate
From across this distance
Thoughts of you cross my mind
How I thought I had lost you
And you I would never again find
And now when I think
That I may see you once more
I shall then remember
What I might have known before
Or better yet things
That I had not yet known
But in time you reveal
And to me I am shown
What that person once was
And what they have come to be
What has happened to you
What has happened to me
And then we shall see
What has happened all this while
Over these last few years
And one million miles
