Rainbow Watching

Rainbow Watching

A Story by Diane Fisher
"

Happiness can be powerful when you give it the chance.

Step. Step. Step. My feet hit the pavement as if I’m the only person in the whole world, though I know I’m not. Music drifts lazily over from some joyous gathering on the other side of the sunbathed campus. Peaceful. One hour left until my last exam, and I’m ready for it. One hour, all my own. What should I do with myself?
I turn a corner. The sunlight catches the fountain, springing up from the center of the pond. The light hits the cascading droplets at just the right angle. A rainbow. I stop, count the colors, smile. I notice how the fountain gently casts its rainbow into the water beneath, sharing. Three steps forward, I reach the cushy, damp grass and sit. I know what I’ll do with myself.
