The DrumsA Poem by NikoI’m clutching my weapon ever so tighter, I never saw myself as much of a fighter, I wish that this backpack was just a bit lighter, As the drums draw near.
I’ve never seen battle before in my life, The tension I feel, you could cut with a knife, I can only pray to return to my wife, As the drums draw near.
Even though I’m in war, I think just of my son, My only thought is to just turn and run, But fight for my country, I must ‘till we’ve won, As the drums draw near.
The ominous army finally comes into view, Whoever is reading this, I’m fighting for you, If only I knew what we were about to go through, As the drums draw near.
The very first gunshot rings out like a bell, With the flash of a muzzle, I’m in the middle of hell, My wife, that I love her, I just pray you’ll tell, For the drums are here. © 2010 Niko |
