It's Been Too Long.

It's Been Too Long.

A Poem by Nicole Vigorito
"

It has the feeling of a poem, but I don't know what to call it. It's weird. I'm not sure I like it as a poem. It's about an old relationship that still haunts me to this day. My first true love...

"

                               A memory.

Is that what we are now?

A reminder that "I love you"'s don't have to mean a single thing?

Trust me, my dearest, my darling, my once upon a time lover,
all the ideas in my head come from my heart.

The heart you still grip with a power that could crush boulders.

Enough to break anyone, I suppose.

Am I supposed to stay content?

"I don't think I love you anymore."

Am I supposed to take kindly to that?

Well, truth is, I cried my eyes out.

Like I did when I had to leave you to go to New York.

And every time I would come to the state of mind that you didn't love me.

And every time we broke up.

And every time I hurt you.

Every time I left you and every time,

every single time -

I thought about a life without you.

Damn near killed me inside.
