AntithesisA Poem by Emily AtteberryAn old man's last words.
Antithesis mull it over for a moment or two I want but a second, A fragment of your time For a melancholy orchestra Is playing in my mind. Knowledge seems almost pointless Like sanding slipping through an hour glass, When all the world seems to care about Is beauty and social class. The garble of pop culture Buries all real news at any cost So we pick up our tabloids in contentment Afraid to hear what we have lost The Bible is now a weapon Religious struggle becoming history’s motif So much hate and scorn is put upon others For their differ in belief Hand grenades exploding And souls being ripped apart Over things so pity as oil Now more valuable than a human heart While all the chaos surrounds us Spinning like a top We look for a light at the end of the tunnel Hoping for it all the stop But with this want that all humans have There is also the truth that we must take Chaos simply cannot stop Reality cannot break. And in this game that we call life Both bad and good are ever rife. We find cold in the streets And warmth in love. Evil in destructive And peace in the flight of a dove. Wherever this may take us And where ever we may go We will always find some salvation Even if at first it may not seem so. © 2008 Emily Atteberry |
