Himalayan Maid

Himalayan Maid

A Poem by Nikhil Ranka

I sit by your shore and watch you bathe;
O my luscious Himalayan maid.
Tears of heaven anoint your hair and your skin.
They invigorate your beauty from within.
Enlivened is your skin: your soil, your shore.
Enlivened are your hair: your trees, your boughs.
The cascades have waned; the tears have dried,
They have embellished your grace; you look like a bride.

Like a maiden who bathes by the falling cascades
Your hair glints greener than a mountain of jade.
Your lulling scent exudes beyond this vicinity,
Interspersing with the ether of the Blessed Trinity.
Droplets on your skin twinkle like stars;
When the mighty sun stares at your splendour from far.
Your eyes, they frolic for they are your creatures.
Just as I, they are in love with your features.
