PrologueA Chapter by night_dreamer49Prologue: The woman rushed down the steps leading aways from the house clutching a worn bag to her chest. The bag held all of the woman's possessions that held any value to her. The bag's contents consisted of a flask of ordinary drinking water, three loaves of a course wheat bread, a tattered, yet thick, blanket made up of swirling patterns, an old hand mirror with a crack running down the middle, and a photograph. As the full moon's light bathed the woman's long black hair, she nervously pulled the hood of her cloak up to hide it. Now, the house behind the woman was nothing special in itself, in fact it was somewhat dilapidated. But, in the left hand window of the second floor, a small girl, no older than nine or ten, stood looking at the woman. Watching. And waiting. Waiting for the woman to turn around so that the girl could catch a glimpse of the lady. Presently, the little girl's wish came true. The woman turned her head and lifted her hood enough for the child to see her face. The woman's luminescent silver eyes seemed to glitter in the moonlight as they met the girl's metallic purple ones. Alas, a man bearing a striking resemblance to the girl picked her up and carried her back into the house. Yet, before the curtains could fall the girl couldn't help one last glance. And there was the woman, still standing, silent and still as a statue. The girl couldn't help but compare her to someone like the moon goddess. With the woman's dark hair, silver eyes, and pale complexion, it was not hard to see how the little girl thought of that. And the curtains fell, and the woman's cat-like eyes vanished, shortly followed by the woman herself into thin air. Nothing remained to show she was ever even there. © 2013 night_dreamer49 |
