Chapter Four: Arx

Venus 5 May 19th

I reach the train station just in time. There are some kids gathering around one of the platforms, in a huge bustling crowd. My eyes meet those of a slate-eyed kid who stands out from the crowd. He's about my age and has darker skin than the rest of the kids gathered around. Just by the way he averts his eyes when I looked at him informs me that he's shy (although I do have a bit of a penetrating gaze). Some more kids turn to gawk at me, as I always wear things out of style, but I simply nod and climb into a hovertrain car. I have to meet Miles at the Hill, which is across town. I could use my power, but that would be suspicious.

There's only one person in the train car with me. He has a hood over his head, like me, and his head is bent down over a device. He looks up slightly when I enter. I take hold of one of the handrails, facing away from him. There's a bit of a tension between us, and if we get into a fight, I'm in the better position. He's stupid enough to sit in a comfortable seat, which will result in him being cornered in a fight. I'm surprised he wasn't as aware of this as me.

After all, we know each other.
