Part Three: Chaos [POV Detected: Tenebris Hunter, Darkling]

[POV Detected: Tenebris Hunter, Darkling]

I watch Jay battle. She made us promise we wouldn’t intercede, but she's going to be killed. Then, the unthinkable happens. Avi’s downstroke is blocked by another sword. And behind that sword… is the Eagle. Darknight gasps, as do I. She was dead! How is she here? Jay scrambles away and grabs her sword, holding it out to defend herself, but there’s no need. Hawk Guy and the Eagle are locked in flight combat, twirling through the air in a chaotic sort of dance.

“Woah,” a voice says from behind me. I whirl around, but it’s only Dove.

“So you came after all?” I ask wryly. Dove shrugs.

“I thought I should, for moral support you know,” he replies. I nod, then turn back to the battle. “Wait…” Dove squints at the two flying figures. “Is that the Eagle?”

“Yep,” Darknight puts in.

“My mother?”

“Yep.”

“The one who’s supposed to be dead?”

“Another yep.”

“Should we help her?”

“Not yet,” a voice says from behind us. It’s Peri. “I figured out pretty quick who the mystery person was” she explains.

“Okay. Can I at least say hi?” Dove wonders.

“Yeah, sure, I haven’t yet,” Peri shrugs. Dove grins, and then all four of us step out onto the battlefield.

“HEY, STRANGER IN THE SKY!” Darknight calls, “COME SAY HI TO YOUR KIDS!” The Eagle dodges a sword stroke and dives down, opening her wings at the last second and landing in front of Peri and Dove. She gathers them both up in a group hug.

“Where have you been?” Darknight demands, sounding very worried. The Eagle sighs, stepping back from Peri and Dove. “Why didn’t you come?”

“You thought I was dead,” she explains, “and I thought it’d be smarter to wait.”

“Well, you certainly caused a lot of grief,” Darknight answers, voice dangerous. Then he turns toward Hawk Guy. “You have a battle to get back to.” The Eagle sighs with resignation and takes to the skies again.
