The madman's storm

The madman's storm

A Poem by Yasmin

Below the navy blue sky
The sun, the moon and a million star
I've witnessed it change colors
Giving days of summer
And winter nights

Far from the shore
Under layers of water and salt
Closer to the darkest point
Safe from sunlight
Covered with oblivious creatures
Is exactly where I lay
Hidden from human's eyes

Suffocating, breathing water in
Fighting every urge to surrender
Deeper I dive, harder I swim

The surface is sharp and serine
Reflects everything it sees
Many fell, few managed to escape
This wide sea has enough room
But not for me

Deeper I dive, harder I swim
The pearls lay near
Legacies of their ravishing beauty maybe real
But they're not why I'm here
I am not a thief though my life, it attempts to steal

The closer I get, the furious the tide is
No power or sanity, gambling my breaths
As the load grows heavier on my chest
Yet I lock my eyes wide open
To see what I've missed

The madness of this sea calms the chaos in me
The lost ship, phantoms of pirates and pale stones
I feel them all yet they are not around me
It's coming
The sea has prepared an army for me

I am bare ,exactly the way I was born
Closer to demons and paranormal illusions
Not a human at all
Maybe only a vivid memory
I don’t want to be a white light that disperses into a spectrum
I want to fade in seeing you
Your madness as it is
Since here is where it feels right
I chose not to be the wingless eagle hanging on another tree
But numbed with the deep pearls of your sea

Really interesting piece to read. The sea reflects our own moods. Can be gentle and calm, pouring out her diamonds in sunlight before she turns into a monster. And when she becomes that monster she can drive us into madness. The vastness, the depths and the anger of the ocean is terrifying. Strikes fear in me just standing and watching. Sometimes I imagine being caught up in its anger wondering how long it will take to swallow me whole. How long it will take to drown.

Great work
I particularly loved the second verse

the madness, like Plath, when the poet looks at himself in the mirror and sees years of self-inflicted torture...
feeling cornered within our own soul---our own heart...I find it interesting how we often compare madness to the sea---I think the poet is reflecting...
I also think this poem is so dark and moving and I just don't understand that there has not been one review of this piece...it is certainly worthy of some words in response to it.
