I Can Feel My Skin Humming

I Can Feel My Skin Humming

A Poem by Elizabeth
"

Title stolen from a Buffy quote I couldn't get out of my head. Help making this better welcome and appreciated.

"

RILEY: Buffy, I'm thrown by this, I'm confused... But I can feel my skin humming, my hands, every inch of me. I've never been this excited about anybody before.

I Can Feel My Skin Humming

when you're near me,
like an instrument in tune.
Can you feel it?
We resonate.
My skin quivers
like a violin string,
taut
and waiting for the bow.

You are the violinist
who could make me sing,
give me voice.
Otherwise I'm inanimate,
waiting
for the friction
to draw music
from my silence.

This is the moment,
your hand poised above mine
like the bow
hovering over the strings,
the space
between infinite silence
and the first notes
of a symphony.

I can feel my skin humming.
If you don't touch me
we'll never know.
We'll sit forever
in an empty, echoing concert hall.

I'm waiting.
Raise your bow.
Your fingers reach,
trembling,
and my hand rises to meet them,
as if the violin
could rise to meet the bow.

It's like goosebumps when the anticipation of something desired makes you shiver.
