A Story by Author Nicole A. Walker
"

Raising awareness to autism. Educating others on autism spectrum disorders and how it affects children and families.

"
Seven years ago, my now nine year old daughter was diagnosed with autism. Received all the early intervention sevices, an aide and years of special education schooling. Now in early puberty, we are faced with a whole new battle. Yet still to this day, we are unsure of the exact causes of autism spectrum disorders. We know genes and a child's environment play a factor. But we still have much to learn. Which is why, Im left thinking like many parents; if I have one child with autism, will I have another? And it's a legit question. That has different answers. As every mother and child isn't the same. So how does a mom decide? Does she go with heart and have another child,  regardless of the outcome. With the possibility that she will raise another child with autism. Or do you play it safe? You take no chances, by having no kids. Living with possible regret and sadness for not having another baby. Having children isn't a easy decision to make when it involves autism. But raising a child with autism can be even harder. Actually emotionally, physically and financially draining; at times. You truly have to be dedicated to the betterment of your child, your life and family. So this choice is yours and yours alone. You only live once. - See more at:
