A longing for London after being torn away. A break up story.

On Being Deported from The Best City in the World

There are times when a mention of you in a book, or an image flashing across my screen will bring a catch to my chest. I long for you incessantly, while trying to push it down into manageable numbness.

While others may note your dreary grey skies, I see the backdrop for so many days wandering your curves and hidden pleasures. I close my eyes and smell the chill of a blustery Sept day. I hold back tears when I recall the beauty of your banks.

I stumbled onto your ground when I needed you most - broken and desperate for renewal. You fed me, heart and soul. You housed me, and gently led me to sights I could never anticipate as a small town Midwestern girl.

I will never not worship you. You are the one love that felt completely reciprocated. I hope that you long for me as well, and one day, just maybe, I’ll be back in your embrace.
