'The Best Years Of Our Lives' Are Ending

A Poem by Scarlett

Five. I countdown to the last breath, the last inhale and exhale of air that is no longer needed for my life to continue. Four. The knowledge I’ve gained is supposed to prepare me for ‘what lies ahead’ in life, but what about now? Three. This last breath, so short lived, is also so unnecessary. This fragment of a fraction of time will hold no value or even leave memories in time. Two. Although it’s almost over, there seems to miles left to go with the expansion and compression of my lungs to keeping pace. One.

Excellent and unique style. Love the way it ends on one rather than try to go on.
