Midnight Beach

Midnight Beach

A Poem by nicolashuerta

The beach is forgotten,
ripples footprints,
and stripes this night
like a powder highway.

Black waves sizzle,
spill,
and scatter the shore
with seashells and seaweed.

Sand castles ruin.
These kingdoms fail
after sunset.
Vacant thrones need
the hands of children.

A salt wind
loosens the scent of shampoo
from her curls,
flips the corner of the blanket,
and gives me the reason to move closer.

A distant boat light
anchors it's green stare
like a falling star pausing.
