As I Gaze into a Starless SkyA Story by Nick TThe wood creaked under the strain, but the bench
held fast. Satisfied with his work he let out a breath. Quickly, forced, as if
to release a burden carried for too long. The sun had set moments earlier,
leaving the sky washed in a crimson orange. The twilight hung in the air for a
while. The world seemed to be settling down to rest. He folded his arms
together, hoping to hold in as much of the warmth from the suns final rays
before the chill stole it away. A dog barked at nothing particular in the distance.
The first stars took advantage of the suns departure, the ones strong enough to
beat the light pollution anyhow. He let his head hang back and stared at the
blank darkness growing above him, his eyes searching for something to focus on,
but finding few stars brave enough to meet his gaze. “A pity,” he thinks. © 2017 Nick T |
