House of Flies

House of Flies

A Poem by Nicole Williams

I am trapped in this place of death and despair

a mountain of bodies in the center of the room

the pungent odor of decay burns my lungs

I cannot breathe in this place

like a caged animal I whimper in the night

covering my ears from the constant sounds

that plagues me

minutes

hours

days go by

and now I am just another lost soul

in this house of flies
