Vine Trellis catharsis

Vine Trellis catharsis

A Poem by Nickjohnson

The rumbling of the ground beneath my feet
Jars the stars in my eyes, and rests them comfortably
On my ascension.
This vine trellis exploding beneath me
Raising me closer to the radiance I know.

Blind faith, reaching out and touching my fingertips.
I left my heart, throbbing below in the shadows.
It’s pulse nurtures this growth,
Reaching heights once known to the weightless and unburdened.

Rivers of color, flooding the eyes
Once so sensitive your image bled them dry
A catharsis, exploding my mediums across
Your beautiful canvas.
Let these tears sink in.

Don’t burden yourself, if their weight is too great
I understand how fragile you are.
Shattering glass isn’t half as disastrous
As you, my shining star, falling from this ever growing trellis.
I dare not say you shall ever lay with the pebbles below.

Hold me tight as we burst forth, into light and dark.
Disintegrate with me, if you must depart.
In flames we can unite, balanced on tattered
Wings of your angelic cries.

Scream your answer, do you love me.
If not, shred this fertile ladder
Allow me to fall like fruit from the tree,
And wilt into the soil, and become
Fodder for the worms.

Your alliteration and diction fuel this great piece. The words dance with each other. There is something soothing and, at the same time, foreboding and tragic about it. "shred this fertile ladder" could be my favorite line. Very good stuff.
