Are We Even Friends?

Just something I came up with

We used to talk everyday

More than once or even twice 

Leaving messages to catch up 

But now they fall on deaf ears 

Now you won't even talk to me 

Sometimes not even a second glace 

I didn't say those things to hurt you 

I didn't think I would lose you 

A few simple words shattered a friendship

Sorry doesn't seem like it helped 

I've told you so many times

What do I have to do to get you back?

We used to talk everyday 

We used to laugh until we cried 

We used to be so happy 

We used to be friends

This is very well-stated & describes a common theme in friendships, from my experience. I love the way you've painted this point of view so vividly with details & self-questioning. What I would say to this person (the narrator) is that when one remark crushes a friendship, then that friendship probably had other deep fissures that weren't being addressed & which doomed the friendship to failure at some point. It's a long, tough journey to accept ourselves, feeling confident we did our best, but some people still will reject us. You've touched on an important concept of acceptance & friendship.

Oh what a sad tale, when someone refuses to forgive and the other longs and then has to wallow in limbo and guilt. Not nice. Loosing a friend is an unsettling feeling, but we need to move on and heal so that those friends that are yet to come and enrich our lives have a space to roam in our hearts. The best part is still to come as our friend sees our strength they will often come back. Oh and don't be too hard on yourself, save that energy for healing. You obviously made a mistake.... you have owned up.... and now you heal ...... no use beating yourself up about it.
