Foreign Film Review (Not so favorite)

Here are some of the foreign films I didn't like and why.

So I have been watching foreign films and I have come across some amazing films that I for one will watch over and over again. However! There are some I have watched that shall we say just flat out stunk. I have to go as far as to say that I have watched some and was either so discussed by what I saw I turned it off and never watched it again to it or it was so boring that I wasn't able to watch it for fear of falling asleep even faster than I was. Now I must point out that while some of these were not written badly others could have gone back to the story board. Lets not waste anymore time and get started.

Before I tell you what this is about let me tell you what I thought about this movie. First of all I have absolutely no idea what this movie was about. So the movie is called The Scent of Green Papaya. Okay, this sounds interesting I wonder how the papaya is going to fit into the story. Boy are you in for a boring movie. I am sorry to say but it is. From what I can gather the movie as little to do with the actual green papaya. Okay, okay so what's the movie about? Well, a little girl Mui went to a house as a new servant. Th mother still mourns the death of her daughter, who would have been Mui's age. In her mind she treated Mui as her daughter. 10 years later Mui (now a young woman) was sent to another family, a young pianist and his wife. The musician falls in love with the peasant, he taught her literacy and they eventually married. So where does the papaya fit in there you ask? I will tell you. They eat it and it grows as a plant in the garden and she likes the seeds inside of the plant. That's it. On another note there is another kid in this movie that I totally wanted to slap. If you see this movie you will know why quite quickly. Other than basically having nothing to do with the title of the movie, it is slow and not as interesting as it could have been. Now I am not saying all the movies have to have love or blood or sex or whatever but at least be not boring! I was having a hard time watching this movie. If you like it great, If you found it interesting good for you. I will not be among the ones that do.

While this movie is not written badly like the one above. I must note that it was really sad. I also didn't like the attitude of some of the people in the movie. Before I explain that let me tell you what it is about so you can understand my point. A westerner (Christian Bale) finds refuge with a group of women in a church during Japan's rape of Nanking in 1937. Posing as a priest he attempts to lead the women to safety. Okay, so now you know that let me tell you what I meant. You see I understand that you are in the middle of the war and you are not exactly happy and cheery but being a totally A-whole basically the time isn't going to get you very far either. Christian Bale's character in this movie was just that a total jerk. He was (well at first) more concerned about saving his own butt then that of the girls at the church. Now while I can't say this movie was bad because by all means it's not it's just that the way they treated each other and the just the pure arrogance of some of them turned me off. Toward the end of the movie some of them did change and were more tolerable at that point. If you like this movie great maybe you saw something in this that I didn't. I just will not be the one watching it any time soon.

So this movie is a story of May(Rabbit) and En-seol (Lizard). May returns to Seoul looking for her birthday mother after 23 years of like as a Korean- American adoptee. En-seol is a taxi driver suffering from a rare cardiac disease. Following their chance encounter at the airport they come to help each other also by chance. Okay so what problems do I have with this? Well, it's the pacing of the movie. It's too slow. Like a snail could go faster than this movie. The story is good and the acting was okay. Although I will say that ending almost made me cry. More so the pacing than anything else and sometimes the actors. There was something about them I didn't like I can't tell what it is but oh well. If you like this movie great. If the pacing is just right for you good. I will be watching a movie that has better pace to it.
