Color shouldn't make a difference

Color shouldn't make a difference

A Poem by MandaBear
"

Just something I came up with while watching something on the History Channel.

"
Is it the color of my skin that makes me different?
If you prick me; do I not bleed?
If you tell a joke; do I not laugh?
If you hurt me; do I not fight back?

Why do you treat me different?
I am just the same as you and yet I am not.
I am put on a lower level than you.
I am put in a world of my own so I do not touch yours.

I am told I cannot go somewhere simply because of my skin.
I am told I cannot eat that because of where I am from.
I am simply told I cannot do because of what I look like.
Is it the color of my skin that makes me different?

Why do some get to do what I am not?
Is it because they are the same as you?
Is it because they know as much as you?
Is it because they are white?

If you ask me to move; do I not let you pass?
If you give me something to eat; do I not eat it?
If you let me borrow your shirt; do I not wear it?
Is it the color of my skin that makes me different?

I should not be judged based on my color.
My actions should speak for my character.
My worth is not based on the color of my skin.
Why should the color of skin make us different?

Still a relevant topic these days! You brought up very intelligent questions and had an interesting pattern in your poem. I'm not sure if it is intentional, but the first stanza is similar to a speech made by Shylock in Merchant of Venice.

I like the powerful message comes from this poem. It's sad that even in todays society, racism is still an issue.

I really like this!

i really like. i know about racial stereotypes, it's really daft, why they exist. supremacy doesn't come from colour, supremacy shouldn't exist, only equality

Agreed this reflects you are not ignorant to racial divides and their implications, it's. wonder how in his day there is still such extreme nationalist and colonial hate, the world belongs to us all! Very nice

I know you're an open minded person because of the words you've penned down. Being a person of color, I enjoyed this piece.

I loved this Amanda! I truly believe we should always treat everyone as equals; important human beings, no matter the color, shape or size!
