He Told Me

He Told Me

A Poem by MandaBear
"

Something I thought of at 2 in the morning.

"
He told me I was just his striptease.
I was only as good as my last dance.
I took everything he said to heart.
My body was the only object that mattered.

I was trained to think he was the only one that cared.
Those moves were just for him.
He told me I was only as good as my last check.
My theme song was money, money, money.

He told me my clothes were just a prop.
I began to think he was the only one who loved me.
My mind was filled with lies and nothing but hate.
If only I knew the truth.

I learned I was worth nothing but a few dollars.
These moves made me look cheap.
He told me I was only as good as my last pole dance.
My theme song was I'm a slave for you.

He told me I was just his body toy.
My body was his temple to do with as he pleased.
He used me then threw me out the door.
I felt like a pawn in a web of lies.

Thank you!
"I felt like a pawn in a web of lies", lovely closing line, gorgeous stanza structure and an around great piece. What drew you to such a concept?

I was listening to Kelly Clarkson's Never again and it just popped in my head.

Can't say I know it, but music is often so inspiring!

Yes it is. I often get much of my idea's from music or History DVD'S.(My Favorite subject)
Wow. A sad and powerful story in the poem. Sometime abuse can be acceptable when someone tear you down to nothing. These kind of people need to be left in your dust. Great description took the reader to abuse and pain. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I'm so sorry !!!!!!! :( This poem is extremely expressive and social committed, it's a fair critic to the over-sexualized way society (in this case, the guy) sees women.
It makes people think (or it should)
Great :)
