Theodore Roosevelt (President #26) (1901-1909)A Chapter by MandaBearTwenty Sixth President of United States of AmericaTheodore Roosevelt is number 26. Like many presidents before him he had many firsts. He was first to have a phone in his own home. He was first to submerge in a submarine. He was first as an ex president to fly in an airplane. Theodore Roosevelt won a Noble Peace Prize and the Metal of Honor. He won this prize because of his role in the Russo-Japanese war. He was a negotiator. (Not for price line) He was the first American to win these awards. Theodore Roosevelt is the 5th cousin to the 32nd president FDR. He wrote an autobiography and didn't mention his wife once. Why? well she and his mother both died on the same day and the same house. He grieved so much for her that the mention of her name would make him cry. Theodore Roosevelt was asked by Maxwell house to try their coffee. When asked he said "Its good to the last drop" (sound familiar?) The teddy bear was named after Theodore Roosevelt. Reason being that he refused to shoot a bear cub while hunting. (how nice) Theodore Roosevelt had a few jobs before becoming president. He became a self taught cowboy. He severed as head of the NYC's Police. Then he was an assistant secretary of the Navy. Theodore Roosevelt had a photographic memory. He was so good he could read the entire article before the other person was done reading the first sentence. I wonder how long it took him to read a book? I bet with all the photographs of his memory could make a scrapbook. (Bad I know) Theodore Roosevelt wouldn't be complete without fighting the war right? (Right!) He gathered some volunteers called the Rough Riders and took them to Cuba. He Charged up San Juan hill in the Spanish American War. When he was considered a war hero when he returned. This was Theodore Roosevelt number 26. He was a frail sick little boy when he started out. His father told him to go outside and play to help him. He took that advice and ran with it his whole life. He died in his sleep in 1919. His final words were "Please put out the light"
