He lost her only 12 years later. Leaving him with 4 sons to raise by himself. Martin Van Buren wrote a biography which he never mentions his wife once. Martin Van Buren's policies were not popular. He was a part of the Panic of 1837. Banks failed, businesses closed, tens of thousands out of jobs. He didn't win this second term as president. Martin Van Buren was related to Theodore Roosevelt. He had two tiger cubs as pets. He was a supporter of Andrew Jackson. Martin Van Buren retired to Kinderhook. So this is Martin Van Buren. President number 8. He was said to be pleasant, smooth, personable. However, his didn't help him to stay as president.
