Love

Love

A Poem by nickchidiac

Despite my overwhelming use of self-medication,

However constant and seemingly life-affirming it may be,

It bears no candle to the affect you have on me,

One small fix of you and I find myself stuck

Pining for the use of my lower mandible as my face

Swallows itself in a numbness that

My mere drugs and occasional alcohol could never hope to provide.

One glance across the networking ballroom

And I am sent into a shiver of overly-thoughtful emotion.

The simple sight of you makes

The hair on my severely underused jimmies stand on end.

I can only imagine the incredible potency your taste would

Shock my body and mind with.

Your toxicity may just be too much to handle

And maybe, just maybe,

This is the reason I so lack the courage to make you mine.

You’re a drug.

One that is filthy and horrible,

Yet so amazing that it has caused many to kill in your name.

But even with all of the side affects and

The intensely acrobatic high-wire act I must use to get my hands on

You,

I am forever hooked

And would spend the rest of my life

Without my beloved ‘illegal’ drugs

For just one more taste of you.

The ambivalence, compulsion, joy, pain, and absolute need for either a drug or a love are all here, creating a stark juxtaposition of addiction and love. This time love wins over drugs; it isn't always so. This must be REAL love.

This is very true on how addictive love can be and how it makes us want to be with that person all the time. This is done very originally and I love the line mere drugs and occasional alcohol use. Great flow to this poem as well. Love the imagery it projects into my mind.

This is amazing, straight forward and to the point.

Those "illegal" drugs are what we fear and need in a life. How many times in a life we know the ending. But the opportunity to reach a new high and swim in paradise make us become unafraid? I like this poem. Sometime the bad things are the best days in a life. I like the ending. A outstanding poem.

hmmm... I can relate. You chose excellent words to form vivid imagery and the emotion beneath the surface is enough to keep your readers enveloped into that world of blissful intoxication. Great poem, I quite enjoyed it
