SerenityA Story by AudreyCasadonteThe lovers discuss each other when the moon is high in the sky.Moonlight was rare on warm night’s. The light of the moon was reserved for nights filled with soft words and even softer kisses. Moonbeams were especially powerful in the art of healing. Rays of the moon’s light were of course excellent battle tactics. A battle was not where Fel found herself on this particular night. Felicia Ascolani could brave countless wars with only minor cuts. She could sharpen her sword with a precision blacksmiths could only dream of. Sharp remarks were a personal arsenal she commanded with a swift and iron fist. Her name was a beautiful whisper in the halls of court, and a dreaded hiss on the fields of battle. Felicia Slythvenos was a completely different person. Felicia Slythvenos stood at only five feet and four inches. She dressed in colorful dresses and laughed in large bursts until her stomach cramped up. Scars were worn with pride and grace and her hands were rough and worn, but the smallest touch from the girl spoke volumes of the softness inside of her. Felicia Ascolani knew how to handle men. Felicia Slythvenos did not...and yet the face of the sleeping man before her said otherwise. Running her hand lightly across her husband's cheek, Fel watched as he nuzzled into her hand subconsciously. She was at a loss for how she had managed to charm and captivate him as deeply as had done to her. They were newlyweds in a sense, but had known each other for far longer. What had started out as a bitter dislike for one another grew over time into a deep and loving connection. Granted the two had their debates and disagreements as much as any other couple, but the problem was always solved in a timely manner instead of letting it fester and rot. The moonlight accented the man’s jaw and lips, making them seem almost transparent. For as pale as he was, the moonlight always seemed to make him glow from the inside out. He was like a walking glow stick. Giggling softly at the thought Fel dragged a finger gently down her husband's chin and traced upwards towards his lips and nose. Even though tiny scars, almost invisible, dotted the man’s face, his skin was baby soft. Stirring slowly underneath Fel’s fingers, he blinked softly as she ran her touch across his eyebrows. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” She whispered into the dark. “S'okay.” He said sleep slurring his speech. A soft rumble drifted up from the man's throat as Fel drove her finger into the unruly mass that was his hair. “Feels good” Smiling Fel scratched a little harder. The silence stretched out between them until it became a great chasm swallowing up nothing and everything. “Brynn?” “Hmm?” Propping herself up on an elbow to get a higher vantage point Fel looked down upon her husband's serene face. “Do you ever wonder why we chose each other?” Brynn’s eyes opened and he gave her a lazy smile. Retracting his arm from around her waist Fel watched as he lifted his hand to cup her cheek, she returned the smile as he began to brush away stray curls that had fallen in front of her eyesight. “Must you always ask these questions at midnight?” He teased. Rolling her eyes Fel bent down to place a feather light kiss to his lips. “Please.” “You're such a temptress.” Brynn said, chuckling lightly. Knowing she had got her way Fel settled solidly against Brynn’s form ready to listen until he stuck his ice cold feet against her thighs. Letting out a shriek Fel pushed the cackling man away. Pouting slightly she sent him a glare. “Sorry love, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Come back, please?” She could not resist him when he gave her the most pitiful puppy eyes she had ever seen, so with a sigh Fel crawled back into her husband's hold and started to stroke his hair again, albeit with a little more caution this time. “Relax darling, I promise I won’t do it again.” “So you want to know why I chose you, huh?” Fel watched the muscles in her husband's face as the moon shifted its position in the sky, once again giving off the impression that Brynn was glowing from the inside. “Well you were certainly a pain in the butt when we first met, you nagged me, hit me, shouted at me, and you were always swinging that sword around. But then something changed. After you learned about me siding with your father you completely hated my guts, and yet you didn’t give up on me. Even though it went against everything you had ever told yourself, you went after me whether the other’s agreed with you or not. You knew what I was capable of and in spite of all that you threw yourself at me anyway. Granted you broke my nose and cracked three of my ribs, but sitting atop me crying and shouting how stupid I was revealed you were more than what I had initially labeled you. From then on I saw you in a different light; how you held Harley after she had broken her arm for the first time, the way you chewed your lips when you were nervous, even the tiny twitch of your fingers every time the word “danger” was mentioned,” Noticing the tears dripping from Fel’s face Brynn rubbed his cheek in embarrassment. “The reason I chose you was because you suck at cooking, and I couldn’t stand another burnt chicken for dinner. Now, stop crying. Blinking the tears out of her eyes Fel wiped them away on her shirt. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to cry all over you.” While Fel was distracted Brynn clamored on top of his wife, he was careful not to squash her tiny frame, but not so careful as to deny her of his physical touch. Looking up into molten pools of amber Fel was surprised by the intensity she found in them. “Moonlight.” Brynn whispered. “What?” “You're glowing Fel.” Looking down Fel realized her husband was right, she had beams of silver and starlight everywhere. Breath caught in her throat Fel glanced up at Brynn unsure of what to do. He looked as mystified as she was. Poking one of the stars on her bicep Brynn started to shake with laughter causing Fel’s form to shake underneath him, which caused him to laugh harder. “W-what are you laughing at?” “You. You're covered in stars and you don’t even realize how much I love you right now. You're worried about tears and I couldn’t care less if you cried all over me.” With that said Brynn bent down to kiss Fel tenderly and deeply. “You have a star on your forehead.” Brynn said once the two broke apart. “Oh, shut up.” Fel whispered, turning the two of them towards the shadow of the moon. ----------- “I’m going to have to start calling you my little moonbeam now.” “Oh yeah, well I’m going to call you glowstick. The look Brynn gave her was priceless. Giggling to herself Fel snuggled her head underneath his chin. She lay still while Brynn wrapped his arms tight around her frame, his breath evening out. A silver star lay next to her hand rising up and down in time with her husband's lungs. Moonlight was rare on warm night’s. The light of the moon was reserved for nights filled with soft words and even softer kisses. Moonbeams were especially powerful in the art of healing. Rays of the moon’s light were of course excellent battle tactics. But the light of the moon swallowed by an ocean of stars was the best kind of moonlight. © 2020 AudreyCasadonteAuthor's Note
