Mother MineA Poem by Keith CharlesMothers secret birthday partyMother Mine
You’ll soon be 90 Mother mine We said that you were looking fine And hoped you’d always stay that way But never gave the game away
For family both near and dear Have traveled far to gather here To celebrate in wine and song The fact that you have lived so long
We worked together through the night Making sure that all was right Arranging flowers and hanging yards Of bunting, balloons and birthday cards
And kept it carefully from your eyes So it would be a big surprise When we helped you down the stairs You’d find a family who cares
We found it very hard to wait Until the anniversary date Make you think that we’d forgot Then prove to you that we had not
So Mother was it really fair When we had come from far and wide And thought you just lay sleeping there To find this morning you had died.
