A Ghost of Me

A Ghost of Me

A Poem by Haley Smith

There's a ghost of me.
she runs, and runs
"wait come back,
wait come back"

a luster, a sparkle,
a burning yellow.
She's everything I'd wish for
and illuminates me when
she chooses.
Otherwise, I
am just a shell that moves
and breathes and never
shines.

God! I wish I could feel.
That space in the cabinet
where my heart resides,
is it really there?
Numb. numb,
everything swirls around me in
a misty gray.
the television set,
I understand the
words it emits, the message,
but there is no depth.
there is no
thing.

You all cried,
and I felt no
thing.
"where did she go"
"she doesn't suffer like us"
"she is heartless"

There's a ghost of me.
she runs, and runs
"wait come back,
wait come back"

This is awesome. I love the imagery you incorporated, right down to details such as the tv set.
I have to add this to my favourite, because it touches home.
