Chapter 1

Chapter 1

A Chapter by Sabina

A feeling of dread washed over Camile as she stopped in her tracks. Oh
no! Please no, not again! She begged silently but it was already too
late. As her blue eyes turned completely white- pupil and all- no
longer was she able to do anything.

Her sunny surroundings were exchanged for a gloomy one and she was in
a corner, holding her legs up against her chest, terrified of five
looming figures. But it wasn't really Cammie who was doing any of this,
she was just watching it through someone elses eyes. Almost like a
movie. Though unlike a movie, this was real for one poor sucker.

"Hand it over." One of the five ordered.

"N-never!" the girl who's eyes Camile was looking through screeched.

They all grunted. "Then we'll just have to mess up that pretty little
mug of yours."

Soon as the words were out the scenery changed and she was back. The
vision had thankfully ended. Yet she stood there for a moment, what
she just saw replaying in her mind.

Ever since she was a little girl, these visions came to her. At first
they were so few, once a year, yet now they were becoming more and
more frequent. Now the average was three times a day, sometimes a lot
more.

Sighing, she shook her head. She had to stop thinking about this!
There was nothing she could do about anything. Not about the visions
or about the people in them. They were always in some kind of danger
or another and she was just a nerdy freshman girl: she couldn't help
them.

Taking a step forward, the urge struck, like it always did. It was the
urge to help the girl, who was probably getting beaten up at that very
moment. Yet she would resist it: there was nothing that she could do
against five fully grown men.

Nodding, she took another step forward and the guilt sunk in. That
girl was as defenseless as her. She needed someone to help her and
Cammie was the only one who could, even if she had to sacrifice herself
to do so. Sighing, she stopped the image of her mom flooded in.
"D****t." She muttered, turning on her heels and starting to run.

How she knew where the girl, or anyone she had rescued, was Cammie had
yet to figure out. Yet somehow her body navigated her perfectly
through the streets until she was at the ally way.

"Stop!" she screamed at the five men,"Leave that girl alone!" the
words rushed out of her mouth before she even knew what she was saying.

Yet the men heard the words clearly. "And who might you be?" One of
them questioned.

Seeing as the men we're distracted by Cammie, the girl saw it as a
golden opportunity. Grabbing her backpack, she scurried away from the
scene unnoticed by the men. Cammie watched it all in relief. The girl
would be fine and now she had to get herself in that position also.

"N-no one." She stuttered. Like always the strong side of her left
with the person she saved, leaving the Cammie that everyone knew: shy,
quiet, and cowardly.

"Then dissappear before we decide you need a make over too." He
growled as he and his friends turned around to where they thought the
girl would still be sitting.

Not waiting a single second more, Cammie started to walk away quickly.
She really didn't want to get beat up today.

Yet before she was even out of hearing range one of them yelled,
"D****t its all your f*****g fault!"

Turning around she shook her head quickly. "n-n-n-" She choked on the
words.

"Lets show her what we do to b*****s who get in our way boys." The
leader growled, taking a step toward her.

Fear pitted itself into her stomach and she did the only thin she
could think of. She ran.

Why did it always end up like this? She wondered silently as her legs
pumped her through the streets. The smart thing would have been to
yell out help or draw more attention to herself. Yet she never did and
like every other time she found herself trapped in a corner with the
men right in front of her.

It didn't take a physic to know what was coming next. Closing her eyes
she waited for the first strike to come- that one was always the
worst. She should know. Getting beat up, was now almost a weekly thing
for her. Yet that didn't make it any less painful.

Gulping, her nerves started to fry as she waited for the pain. Yet
instead of the sound of a punch or kick breaking the silence, someone
called her name. "Cammie?"

Her eyes popped open as she spotted a boy standing behind the five
men. He was tall and lean with good sized muscles. His hair was a dirty
blond and his green eyes were to die for. She knew him. Everyone in
her school knew him.
He was what they called the Prince at their school. Even though he
was a freshman almost every girl was falling head over heels for him.

But that didn't really matter right then and there. "R-r-run!" She
screamed at him. The last thing she wanted was to drag anyone into this.

"Who are you?" The leader inquired, annoyed by all the interruptions.
Yet like before, they turned their backs on Cammie.

"Darrel." He answered, "What are you going to do to Cammie?"
"The little b***h got in our way. And unless you want to share her
pain, I suggest you run away like she said." One of them told him.

He didn't budge from his spot. "No thank you." He remarked, "Now if
you could just let her go I won't have to kick you asses."

The guys were quiet for a second before they finally started to laugh.
"Hell no."

With a sigh, Darrel looked towards her. "Cammie, you should close your
eyes."

She shook her head. "N-n-no! D-Darrel run!"

Ignoring the rest besides the stuttered no, he returned his attention
to the thugs. "Fine."

The men smiled. "So what's it going to be pretty boy? Run away or
should we mess up your face a bit?"

"Neither." He answered, "I will fight you and win."

They chuckled. "A bit cocky there."

"Not at all." he remarked, "So are you going to fight me or what?"

Shrugging, the leader nodded at the rest. Without another word they
charged at him at once. She couldn't take it anymore. Curling up in a
little ball, she rested her head on her knees and squeezed her eyes
shut.

This couldn't be happening! Darrel was going to get himself killed! She
had to help him!

Yet fear had full control over her and she couldn't move an inch. No
matter how much she tried to lift her head, to try to fight, nothing
came.

That was until the leader made the worst mistake in his life. Pulling
on her hair, he forced her head up as she whimpered in pain. "You
should watch this." He snickered as one of his guys landed a punch on
Darrel.

"Don't!" She screeched as she saw him stumble back into the wall from
the blow. That was when she snapped. Grabbing the hand that held a
fistful of her head she twisted it until the thumb was practically
touching the opposite side of the wrist all while turning around and
getting up.

The man screamed out in pain yet none of that touched her even
remotely. She had to fight. She had to help. Lifting her leg she snap
kicked him in the soft side under the jaw. As he caught off balance,
she twisted the arm even harder forcing him to the ground. Before she
knew what she was doing, she was on top of him, having him in a choke
hold. Adding the slightest pressure to it, she cut off his air and in
moments the man went limp- passed out from lack of oxygen.

Not wasting time, she looked at Darrel only to spot that all four guys
were on the ground groaning in pain. And just like that she returned
to her cowardly, stuttering self. "a-a-Are you a-al-alright?"

"I'm fine. How about you?" He inquired.

"P-p-perfect." She stuttered, "Th-thank you."

Smiling in relief he nodded and asked, "How did you get into this mess
anyway?"

That question placed the dread that had just disappeared moments ago
back. What was she going to tell him? The truth was too bazaar and she
couldn't lie. Well she could she just sucked at it. Yet there was no
other choice. "Th-they were b-b-beating u-up a g-g-girl. I di-
distracted th-them s-so she c-c-could get a-away." That was semi-right
and Darrel didn't seem to question it.

"That's dangerous. You should have called the cops." He commented and
she blushed.

"S-s-sorry." She apologized.

"Well no harm was done..." He said with a bright smile before he
looked down at his watch, "Though we better hurry if we want time
before school to talk to friends."

Nodding she took a step forward and realized something. She didn't
have her books. Searching around frantically, she didn't spot them.
Fear took over her. She couldn't lose those!

"Are you looking for these?" Darrel asked, handing her the books, "I
found them down the street and I thought they were yours."

Taking them, she hugged them to her chest tightly. "Th-thank you s-so
m-m-much!"

"No problem." He said, "Come on let's go."
