Human Values and Good Manners Mentioned in the Quran – Part 3A Story by New Age IslamThe Quran asks the believers to do good deeds and refrain from misdeeds. When we speak of human values and good manners in Islam, we simply mean following the guidance of God the Most High. Doing things that are pleasing to Him is useful for us as this leads to salvation and great bounty. The Quran asks the believers to do good deeds and refrain from misdeeds. Like the previous two parts, this third part also presents the Divine messages. 31. Seek forgiveness of Allah. He is Forgiving and Merciful “And whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful” (73:20) 32. Encourage Feeding Poor “Just look at him, who belies the religion! So it is he, who pushes away the orphan, And does not urge to feed the needy." (107:1-3) 33. Help Those In Need By Finding Them “(Spend) For the poor who are restricted while in Allah's cause, who cannot travel in the land (for earning) " the unwise think they are wealthy because of their restraint; you will recognize them by their faces; they do not seek from people in order to avoid groveling; and Allah knows whatever you spend in charity.” (2:273) 34. Do Not Spend Money Extravagantly “And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent.” (17:29) 35. Do Not Invalidate Charity with Reminders “O People who Believe! Do not invalidate your charity by expressing favour and causing injury " like one who spends his wealth for people to see, and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day; his example is similar to that of a rock covered with dust and hard rain fell on it, leaving it as a bare rock; they shall get no control over (or benefit from) anything they have earned; and Allah does not guide the disbelievers.” (2:264) 36. Honor Guests This is deduced from the Quranic verses 51: 24-27. It is reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever believes in God and the Last Day, let him honor his neighbor; whoever believes in God and the Last Day, let him honor his guest as he is entitled." It was said, "What is his entitlement, O Messenger of God?" He said, "[The best treatment] for one day and one night; and hospitality is for three days, and anything after that is charity bestowed upon him. And whoever believes in God and the Last Day, let him, speak good words or else remain silent.” (Sahih Bukhari) 37. Order Righteousness to People Only After Practicing It Yourself “Do you order righteousness of the people and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Then will you not reason?” (2:44) 38. Do Not Commit Abuse on the Earth “And [recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, "Strike with your staff the stone." And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. "Eat and drink from the provision of Allah, and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.” (2:60) 39. Do Not Prevent People from Mosques “And who are more unjust than those who prevent the name of Allah from being mentioned in His mosques and strive toward their destruction. It is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them in this world is disgrace, and they will have in the Hereafter a great punishment.” (2:114) 40. Do Not Be the Transgressors “Do not exceed the limits; and Allah does not like the transgressors.” (2:190) 41. Treat Non-Muslims in a Kind and Fair Manner “Allah does not forbid you from those who did not fight against you because of religion and did not drive you out from your homes, that you should be kind towards them and deal with them fairly; indeed the equitable are the beloved of Allah.” (60:8) 42. Save Yourself from Covetousness “Therefore fear Allah as much as possible, and heed the commands, and obey, and spend in Allah’s cause, for your own good; and whoever is rescued from the greed of his own soul " is they who will be successful. (64:16) 43. Do Not Force Non-Muslims to Accept Islam “There is no compulsion at all in religion; undoubtedly the right path has become very distinct from error; and whoever rejects faith in the devil (false deities) and believes in Allah has grasped a very firm handhold; it will never loosen; and Allah is All Hearing, All Knowing.” (2:256) This verse is not abrogated. Newageislam has posted an article on this subject. Has the Ayat, La Ikraha fid Deen (There is No Compulsion in Religion), been Abrogated? 44. Believe In All Prophets “The Noble Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him by his Lord, and so do the believers; all have accepted faith in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Noble Messengers; saying, “We do not make any distinction, in believing, between any of His Noble Messengers”; and they said, “We hear, and we obey; Your forgiveness be granted, O our Lord, and towards You is our return.” (2:285) 45. Those Who Have Knowledge Will Be Given a Higher Degree By Allah “Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.” (58:11) © 2019 New Age IslamAuthor's Note
