Love Again

Love Again

A Poem by New Theory
"

Love walks back into our life no matter what you do.

"
I have lost before
And I know you are broken too
Little pieces of us we can see laying in the debris
Just waiting for someone to pick it up
Polish it, shine it and put it all together.
So that one day, they appear at our door
with it neatly gift wrapped in a shiny paper.

But when that person really does arrive,
With the beautiful gift, and we open the door.
With glee but are left surprised
For it is not the one
Of whom you dreamt last night.
The face is all different,
The color of their dress is totally not right.

You see a stranger with a strange smile
Trying just too hard all this while.
So you take the gift halfheartedly.
And you unwrap it and you see the broken piece.
That once was lost, that once was yours.
You put it back and it fits perfectly.
It fits back better than it ever did.

And now when you look back at the stranger.
They are no longer strange,
You wonder how in a moment did all of this change.
So you ask and they reply.

That broken piece had a broken part,
I had a broken heart, with a replacement for that.
So I put the replacement and its ticking again.
I hope it makes you forget all your pain.

I don't think it's always truly ourselves that incites us to emerge anew in another situation, or rather, due to a situation, but sometimes, it's just time that accustoms us to the pain and the dread of living until finally, we are confronted by the stunning reality that we cannot live like this forever and must make the decision of whether or not to fix ourselves or wallow in the pain. The decision isn't always conscious but I think it's still there.
Nonetheless you capture the essence of a shattered person on the optimistic side of the spectrum, a perspective that is still fairly new to my mind. Yet I still found myself believing in the persona that you seem to speak of, even going as far as to relate somewhat (albeit barely) to the optimistic outlooks of your own poetry.
Stellar, Theory, I enjoyed muchly.

It is the tragedy that brings us together.

Thank you Madalyn Beck, I am gald you think I did a good job :)
Loved this. Heart is a fragile thing. It bleeds, gets shattered and sometimes mends itself back too. I think you have beautifully put across the idea how a shattered heart longs for someone to mend it back. At first glance, it gets repelled by the idea of falling in love again, but with time you fall in love again - as the title says. This piece of writing takes you through the journey of breaking your heart - to being repellant to love again - to finally find another person to love. I am specially fond of the concluding lines - "The broken piece had a broken part, I had a broken heart, with a replacement for that."

The flow is fluent, everything feels natural and surely makes for a wonderful read. This is a mature piece of writing my friend.

Why don't you also pen a piece of writing for the fight that the broken heart gives in order to accept someone new to take place in your heart.

You stole my words. How could you think what I have been thinking all the while? Appreciating this one would be like praising myself.
