Defenders of the night

A poem about a story I will write in the future, about the defenders of night.

They stay with you in the darkest night,

They move in silence, out of your sight.

Soft, cuddly and funny from plain view.

Don't let their soft furry skin deceive you.

When you lay in rest, in the dreamland.

They are ones who protect you from evil 

that lies below your bed and beyond.

They are the ones who take the last stand.

When you see them in store you just don't have a choice.

Mommy please get me those soft toys.

Aha, I see where Blue suggested you read Limbo.
Contrary to the image you had provided in this poem, I still imagined the being you described as more of a nightmare rather than a guardian until the last line, which is good! I adore the unexpected. I assure you, it has nothing to do with the way you portrayed the poem and more to do with the way I perceive things. Upon a second reading I've found that your descriptions are akin to describing to me something that could be out of Toy Story. I enjoyed this, well done, and it certainly is a poem, New Theory, aha. Keep it up!

Yes.... exactly, now that I think it does sound similar to toy story. Must be in my subconscious mind while writing it. I am a huge movie buff and I think my writing will always be affected by all that I have seen even when I am not consciously trying to do so.

This is definitely interesting and I certainly wasn't expecting the poem to be about teddy bears. It came across as a hideous monster at first, but glad to see the turn around to a defender of the night at the end.
