Hello NubeA Story by neurostar burns
Yes, Nube is a name. It means 'cloud" in Spanish. It is a dub astronomers tagged a new find. The object is hard to find. It is a dim object of a new category 'almost dark galaxy'. So far there are very few found. It takes strong instruments to filter these quasi visible bodies. There is fuzzy dark matter. The light magnitude readings are low. Not quite dark enough to be put with dark galaxies with their dark matter. It does not emit enough light to be put with brighter objects. So it is part of this new category.
Still Nube evinces very little light and yet surprisingly is a very large galaxy, perhaps a half radius of 22,500+ light years, according to the paper released Oct. 20, 2023 by Mireia Montes of Laguna, Spain the team leader. It is 350 million light years away, is said to have an effective surface density of 0.9 solar masses/parsec squared, which is similar to studied ultra-diffuse galaxies. Its surface brightness is to be around 26.75 mag/arcsec squared. It is about 10 billion years old. It largely stands alone and so is easier to work on specific details with less interference of surrounding environment. Photometric redshift may be variable. It may be unique "due to its low central surface brightness and extension for a galaxy of its stellar mass." "Very low surface brightness (also called 'almost dark') offer an interesting possibility to constrain the microphysical properties of dark matter. In these galaxies, baryonic feedback effects are expected to be very moderate, leaving spatial distribution of their dark matter almost intact."
