Look to space dust for life evidence

A Story by neurostar burns

Tomonori Totani, an astrobiologist at University of Tokyo, Japan is proposing expanding our unsuccessful search for biology in the local region should include looking for space dust which is blown about aplenty from various space sources which in themselves could harbor elements for life.

He notes asteroids are seen striking planets all across the Milky Way galaxy and they kick up debris which may be flung to the outer regions. He approximates 100,000 grains land on Earth every year. The grains may contain microscopic minerals or elements. It does not take much to accumulate on the surface and subsequently germinate on viable soil or water. He suggests that research for biosignatures should conducted and this may increase the chance for detection of active evidence of
bio-activity.

A paper is recently released by the "International Journal of Astrobiology" carrying his report.
