First 'Dark Sky' nation named

First 'Dark Sky' nation named

A Story by neurostar burns

The first 'dark sky' nation of modern, environmental times is named by the International Dark-Sky Assn. This is for a whole country, not an area.

In the near center of the Pacific Ocean, an island is awarded the title for having no light pollution during the night time. Which is getting harder to find on this globe. The island a ways north of New Zealand and about 5 degrees south of the Equator, Niue, population 1600, gets the first honor. It is anticipated there are other island nations that will obtain the 'dark sky' award before long. These places will have to work hard to retain their status of having artificial light pollution free night skies. And enjoy natural nights and wide open view of the stars.
