Nondifferentiation societies

Nondifferentiation societies

A Story by neurostar burns

It is noted with some societies in the world that over time they strive for nondifferentiation throughout, a kind of uniformism. It takes a lot of critical analysis to perceive this and yet be objective.
This usually shows on the cultural level. It may not start overtly and so will not immediately be noticed amongst populations. Eventually some selected aspects may be favored over others and may be touted, emphasized and supported over other aspects.
Eventually the less supported aspects will diminish and even go extinct in a society. Favored expectations become widely enforced at the societal level and ingrained in people's behavior. Often cultural expressions that are dwindling resort to being practiced privately only in a home rather than in open societal settings. They will not be noticed because they are not seen, or are discouraged by those who choose some other aspect and want to make it ubiquitous in the setting or country. Differences are effaced. This will in turn reinforce a nondifferentiation, or little or no distinctions in the society, steering toward homocentrics. A tendency for commonality is encouraged throughout the populace.
Past history of families, names, terms. idioms or traits may be deliberately targeted. Historical language of certain kinds may be discouraged for favor of another. Other rites of passage or characteristic may be with or without reason be subjected to the same. The aspects or style favored by some will intrude and displace the aspects of other traits, expression, etc. Those traits will seldom or never be seen displayed in public settings or even private settings. They will not be shared in the larger society expression or history.
This is a tendency for one cultural norm to dominate and make it so there is little or no differentiation expressed within society which eventually will become supported by officials and regulations of society. The subtly altered former norms will be downplayed and the favored norm will be made pervasive and ubiquitous in the society at large and then standardized. Hence, people will be expected to behave societally in a more "conventional", uniform way with fewer distinctions despite the varied background of some populations. They will come to expect same understanding or conformity toward many situations rather than diversify. This would then establish a sense of ordinariness which will turn into a comfort zone for citizens that are ill equipped to accept disruption.  Toward a complete coherence or uniformity where differences are constrained or not evident. Nondifferentiated.
