Confidence/faithA Story by neurostar burnsThe following is a short exposition based on a 1987 work of Prof. Frank J. Hoffman. This may be considered a delineation of what comprises confidence. The words are from ancient texts of a continuing culture over 2600 years ago. Confidence here is not depicted or espoused as an outright declaration or for superimposition. The implication of its use is to be arrived through a more introspective approach. It may show a more practical application. For one, it does not encourage blind faith in information. It encourages first a testing for thorough going consistency before being supported or accepted, like a gold coin is tested for authenticity before being accepted. A misleading statement can lead one to erroneous or incomplete comprehension which could put proper doubt on a value. In the ancient context here, words like 'aveccappada' are utilized to encourage discussion on the topic first before acceptance. Another phrase uses the term, 'asadho' to deflect tendency to blindly accept something without examination. After examination and ascertainment of the topic, then one ventures to express 'saddha', or confidence in it and because there was thorough examination and was found to be sound, it should hold as unshaken, cannot be obviated or disproved. Subsequently, one will have a true reason to sustain faith.
