"Slave Patrols"-U.S.

"Slave Patrols"-U.S.

A Story by neurostar burns

The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: debates:
During its time of being debated for ratification, several well known public figures, including authors of the Bill of Rights, argued for "slave patrols". Among their arguments was the need to keep arms for "Slave patrols". This is the perceived need to have owners/authorities hunt for any escaped slaves. Another need for the 2nd amendment was to have people armed in case there was a slave uprising.
Many who argued on the Second Amendment, both pro and con, nevertheless favored the above arguments. It is seen that the slave trade act was not allowed to be amended until 1808 but it was not until 1820 that it lapsed.
Many attribute this to eventual rise of police and policing. (200+ years after, where's this great slave rebellion?)
This is noted for the debates towards the Second Amendment, but will not be found in the final drafts and writing but nevertheless were found influential.
