Numerous Milky Ways...A Story by neurostar burnsBack in the day, when the cosmos was gauged by visible light, we looked up to the night sky. There we discerned a broad, milky band. Composed of stars, it was eventually dubbed 'Milky Way' by some. It also described, for a while, the boundary of what was believed to be the universe. That singular body. Astronomy has since expanded that realm. Numerous galaxies far afield are now seen. When one looks to the center of those galaxies, they will also discern milky, broad bands. Should it likewise be that these be dubbed milky ways, and not just ours? But the reality has been pushed beyond the visible light spectra. There are not just milky ways to be discerned in the cosmos. Science now opens the door to view many aspects of spectra in the cosmos, no longer just the visible spectrum. There are radio galaxies to contend with. Almost as befuddling, are detected dark galaxies, dark stars, dark photons, mysterious multi million light year voids, and many dark aspects of the cosmos are being discovered. What to make of those? How shall they be dubbed for vernacular identification or nomenclature?
