LATTER TIMES

LATTER TIMES

A Story by neurostar burns

Narrator: Stars dim or disperse. The givers of life go to their end as nuclear fuel diminishes. The universe becomes darker and colder. Life contracts and is less frequently encountered. Star systems become unstable, life belt zones of planet and planetary systems continuously  contract and with many, the ecosystem for life becomes unsupportable. These conditions pervade the universe and are dominant.

Here and there, may be found ephemeral clusterings of brightness. Within a very diffuse scattering there may be found viable ecosystems. Vast distances separate these, even the light speed is challenged if one wishes to travel betwixt them amidst vast darkness. These are the latter times of the universe.

Conservation of Energy

In the old thermodynamic laws, the second said of thermodynamics, energy will be conserved. The other part spoke of dissipation. Under the heat death scenarios, the dissipation is under estimated. Current observations of the universe clearly indicate there is dissipation and with it separation of bodies and elements. With that ongoing, there is no likelihood of significant accretion of elements to heat the cold space. The stars burn out their fuel in a couple trillion of years. With an unlit cosmos, it will seem featureless to visible light. (As it was at the beginning, i.e. before the big bang.?)

Presumably, there will be no function of gravity. as it needs bodies, according to Einstein. Thereupon, with no bodies and way to aggregate, the universe will flatten out along with its irreversible expansion. Temperatures of coldness could reach unprecedented levels and would be almost uniform. This could truly make an immutable condition.

These are the latter times of the universe. This is fascinating stuff. I barely understand most things - maybe because studying the stars reminds me how tiny I am - but there is a desire to comprehend the loftier things. Stars, black holes... our finite existence struggles to grasp. At least mine does.
