Last Night in London

Last Night in London

A Poem by J.M.B

i'll miss you Melissa

with your new hairstyle

every week,

on the checkout at Iceland

looking all Afro and sweet

as you scan the goods

that i buy in to eat

and the barcode reader sings;

beep beep beep . . .

and we joke around about me

not wanting cashback

or a bonus card, even though it's free,

always the same joke eh?

and slight variations of,

never getting past first base,

but at least it's something,

i think, i'll say, Melissa honey.

in the State's it's; would you

like me to pack your bag, paper or plastic?

but i don't find that very funny,

you know how “cashback” and “bonus cards”

can be?

i mean really can be,

really really funny
