New Years Eve 2009

saw a UFO just off the high road

a few hundred feet

above the backs of houses

around 11pm.

angled light beamed

in every direction

from the object, as it loomed large

over people and cars

toward the common,

moving through air.

it paused and hovered over my raised head

and bewildered eyes

for several suspenseful seconds

without a sound,

before spreading across sky

out of sight.

 

 

it didn’t hit warp drive.

i wasn’t on drugs.

i felt i skipped several rungs of the ladder

that night

shuffled to the shop

bought some cigs
