words on a page

A Poem by J.M.B

i don’t identify
a single static self,
just an ongoing continual process
of transition
and change . . .

i don’t think like i did
thirty years ago,
twenty years ago,
ten years ago,

or even five years
ago . . .

a value judgement applied
to my “illegal brain”
ten years ago

should be completely
null-and-void today,

but immigration doctors,
impersonal,
detached,
out-of-context,
and with their “harmful”
and “dangerous” behaviour

want to go
by words on a page
and words alone.

they do not know me,
or my wife,
how we interact
with one another,
with friends and family,

how we love one another,
respect one another,
and all life,

and nor do
they care,

but for aught,
but words on a page,
and
words alone
on a page

words alone

that are words
alone
on a page

and are not mine

. heartbreaking, monsieur ... and brilliantly perceptive and sensitive writing ... excellent title ... superbly justified ... beautiful picture ... that is why we need to extend compassion to them (those immigration doctors) ... for thinking in such sadly limited ways ... they deserve our utter kindness and sympathy ... they really don't know reality ... i find them cute and amusing and delusional ... :) ...
