Apologies

Apologies

A Poem by Nesha
"

Dedicated to all the women who were and are victims of domestic violence...

"

Don’t apologize; I heard this many times before…
I feel a deep sorrow; saddened, broken to the core
Gave in many times to give you a chance to get it right
Nothing has changed, we still argue and fight
The anger more intense,
I clench at your sight
Lost inside myself with no way to escape
Victim of physical, emotional, mental abuse and rape
Black eye after black eye, you made me cry
I forgot who I was
I lost my pride
I’m realizing I’m a real strong woman who knows her worth

The mere thought of leaving you or killing you fills me with Mirth

I’m no killer besides I’m afraid of jail

I’d rather leave you, get my life on track, and maybe apply to Yale

You aren’t a man, a coward at best

Who walks around proudly with no job and can’t pass a simple math test?

So clear to me now, it is you that is weak

Your big hairy chest, psychopathic smile, pounding my face like meat

I’m a phenomenal woman in so many ways
The cloud over me suddenly turns to SUN RAYS
I’m not ugly, nor a loser, I won’t be scarred for life

I can’t believe I said “I do”, why did I ever become your wife?

Without a warning, the do’s turn to don’ts, the moans to screams

I’m sickened by the big bad wolf; a little boy that [screams]
I’m beautiful, smart, strong, witty, unique, avail
On my path to freedom, I cover my old trails
No more drama, I feel so free
This is how things should always be
Some advice-
Love yourself; never let someone consume your soul,
Before you know it, you’ll be old
Minute-by-minute, time ticks away
You haven’t accomplished much, just another day
[LOVE Yourself] Be yourself, dwell in your dreams
And believe that you are the person that you are meant to be

This is an incredible piece. You took the reader from the beginning to your awakening. It gave me chills to see you overcome your fear, and see who you are, not who he tried to make you. This piece NEEDS to be read by the millions suffering the same degradation. This is a great write. Rain..

Amen! The worst form of abuse is having it beaten into you that you are at fault for being abused or hurt, that somehow the victim made the abuser so out of control that they deserved what happened. It is so empowering, the key to breaking the shackles, to affirm your beauty, intelligence and worth--to even acknowledge that the path towards healing, and reclaiming your life, does not mean you are broken. I love the strength and assertion of hope within "Apologies". I love the way the writer can break free to see the truth and be strong enough to tell it without tears or feeling she is at fault. This is the best advice: "Love yourself; never let someone consume your soul..."
I look forward to reading more from you :)

Nesha, I enjoyed this piece very much. I could feel the depth of your writing. Almost therapeutic in a way; bringing closure to a roller coaster ride full of scary turns that seem to never end. I was totally engrossed feeling the pain then the relief that the victim finally reached.

I love the fact that you're not scared of rhyming. I love rhyme in poems. I think it makes the read much smoother. I cant get through a poem that doesnt rhyme as fast as a one that does. I think its like ADD. Haha.

Anyways I loved your poem. I felt every word you put in it.

:)

All of my poems are in rhyme. The ones I try to not rhyme really suck.
