Cooties

Cooties

A Chapter by Arianna

To make a long story short, my lip healed but the experience left me scarred. I no longer looked at the world like it was sugar coated. It was very real to me, and I was very aware of the fact that those scissors could have stabbed me somewhere that would have killed me.

Selina apologized, though she didn’t mean it. After what came to be called by my teacher “the incident” we got to choose where we sat. My table was made up of Scott, Arik, Dakota, Me, Sarah, and Virginia. We all got along quite well, occasionally arguing about who got the glue and who was wrong on our math questions. But otherwise we made up a nice group, until the day.

Now I’m sure you all remember the day when your friends of the other gender decided that you had cooties. And this was mine.

First I should tell you about my friends. Arik was hyper, and by hyper I mean SERIOUSLY hyper all the time. Dakota, even at age five was a thug, but inside he was sweet if he liked you. Scott was smart, like seriously smart.

Sarah was quiet and nice to everyone, Virginia was smart, and a little judgmental, and I was weird. I was hyper and even at that age very good at getting my way.

And on the day that the guys decided we had cooties, we all laughed at them. Just the day before we had all decided that cooties were silly and sworn we would be friends forever no matter what. That was before we had gone out for recess and the boys had come back convinced that even touching us would give them a deadly disease that would turn them into….-shudders- a girl.

We laughed for a few days before it started to concern us. Don’t get me wrong girl friends are great. But all troughs my life I have thrived off of being around guys. They were my favorite. They weren’t afraid of mud, they weren’t as judgmental, and they were easy to read. I always knew what to expect from guys, girls have always just been a wild card to me.

So after about a week of our kindergarten classroom being divided by gender I was going insane. Girls are crazy; I have no idea what to say to them. With guys you can just say whatever, and they don’t get offended or think too much into it.

So me and Sarah decided to do something about it. “Dakota we don’t have cooties.” I said putting my foot down as the boys hid within their giant block fort. “I can’t talk to you” he said “you’ll give me cooties” I got mad and pushed over the blocks and glared at him. “Dakota if you do not talk to me right now I will tell everybody here that thing you do not want them to know” his eyes went huge at my threat to tell the whole class that he still wet the bed.

He jumped up from the blocks, “so what do you want to talk about?” he said linking his arm with mine. What did I tell you, I got what I wanted? Sarah on the other hand wasn’t having as good luck with Arik.

“I DON’T HAVE COOTIES!” she cried “what are cooties. How can I have something I don’t even know what it is” Arik looked at her like she was crazy, but still looked at her as if he couldn’t comfort her for fear of being a girl. “I don’t know what they are, but they will make me be a girl and I don’t want to be a girl.”

“Arik” Sarah said with her mischievous face that she only got very rarely. “I have a secret to tell you” the short freckled boy couldn’t resist a secret leaned closer to Sarah remaining at least an inch from her face before Sarah leaned in and Licked him. Right on the cheek.

“AHHHHHHHHHH” Arik screamed running away from her. He ran around the room before running into the bathroom that connected to our room to hide during the transformation into a girl.

After a few days of Arik remaining a boy people in my class decided that it was safe to be around people of the other genders. All I can remember thinking that day is I wonder if I'm always going to like boys more than girls.

Wow, you remember kindergarten much better than I do....but then, it was about 17 years more recent for you. :)

It's funny how they actually believed they would turn into girls. I wonder where they got the idea from.

She licked his face! Aaaaaaaaah!

Just think, 6 or 7 more years and he probably would have liked it!!!

This whole thing is great so far. Looking forward to seeing more.
