Queen Elizabeth (the Golden Age)

Queen Elizabeth (the Golden Age)

A Poem by Nessa Aurinko

She was stuck in sunshine,

The fairytale girl.

Trapped in a world that is always yellow,

and hot, and too bright to see.

Touch anything and burn it up,

touch anyone and have to let go;

for no one gets too close to the sun

without getting burned.

But she knows she belongs there,

the sunshine girl.

In a world full of darkness

and unhappiness,

she shines her beacon as bright

as she possibly can

to anyone looking for light

Although she usually does it alone.

So she sits alone up high,

in a tower of stone

waiting for the night to fall

and the moon to block her out.

Because living in sunshine

starts to burn after a while.
